MegaCon Live
Manchester
26th July 2025
What a brilliant day. It was the first MegaCon that my wife and kids went to as well, and they spent most of the day in the kids zone, going down the bouncy slide. We travelled to Manchester early on and came back on the same day. I can't remember a convention day that I've been so tired.
I enjoyed seeing Paul McGann on stage talking about Doctor Who. You learn a lot from these chats. They should bring him back on TV and maybe we'll get some better scripts. Paul knows his stuff, and no surprise as he's still actively a Doctor with audio books.
I also wanted to see Marina Sirtis on stage and waited 20 minutes before they said due to unfortunate circumstances, she'd be on stage Sunday instead. I wasn't there for the second day so went and got her autograph and had a really good chat with her. The reason she wasn't on stage was because they gave her the wrong time on her schedule and she was on her dinner break. She even shown me the list of times she had and they didn't match up. I got a better deal talking to her face to face, and she was gutted she couldn't do the stage Q&A because she really enjoys doing them. Asked her a couple of questions and she's very VERY open and doesn't take shit. It was a pleasure seeing her again, the last time was back in May 2007, my first convention that started all of this madness. She told me she didn't get paid for that one.
Good times meeting the veterans of our hobby. I haven't seen Stuart Claw in years and now he's hosting for MegaCon, I had a good natter with him. Also brilliant that Jon (Pocky Ninja) was at the Tokyo Toys stall. I also managed a quick hello from MegaCon Live creator, Bryan Cooney. As I hadn't seen him for like 15 years, he remembered me but forgot my name. Haha.
We nipped to McDonald's for our dinner which is the first one for our SummerFest of fun. Last year, I think we did 5. New plan for this year is to do a junk food tour, which sadly includes one I don't rate.
Maverick had a huge highlight getting photos with S.C.P. cosplayers. He's going to put one on his bedroom wall, and wants to cosplay himself in the near future.
Thankfully we met up with Alison and Jodie. Can't have an event like this without The Guild being together. We are already planning for 2026 Manchester, and you never know, might nip to one of the other MegaCon's between now and Manchester 2026?
