Horus Rising - The seeds of heresy are sewn - Book 1 - by Dan Abnett
The date was 23rd September 2021, in Romford, London. I was with my friend, Simon, who went to the Warhammer store with me. I was spending a few days down in London for a quick holiday and while down there, trying to visit quite a few games shops. As much as I'd been saying I was going to wait with Warhammer because I have too many hobbies, and painting miniatures would be more suited to me in retirement age, I decided to ask the guy in the store where I should be begin when it comes to novels, so I can get a better idea of the universe. To be honest, I didn't know anything about how big this thing was, and opening this book was definitely an eye opener. What an incredible book. I am not going to spoil any of these books by revealing the stories, but there are a couple of sections in this which are interesting notes on religion and political strategy.
The first book lands in my hands and then I start looking at the rest of the series. Up to the point of making this page, the series will be 63 books long. I intend to get every single one. At the time of buying this though, I didn't realise how hard it would be. Black Library is Games Workshop's own publication, just a few miles down the road from me in Nottingham, and the first few books are readily available. Getting further in, like to book 4 and 6, then beyond, they're not being published anymore. Why print the first 3 and then ignore anything in between that and the new releases? So my hunt on Ebay became a lot of fun, and revealed a lot of surprises. Getting second hand books have previous reader adventures, but I'm not exactly giving my money to the authors which is a shame. I'm old fashioned, I don't like collecting Ebooks, and so my quest to collect the actual physical novels begun as soon as I picked up Horus Rising in that epic little Warhammer shop in Romford, London.

False Gods - The heresy takes root - Book 2 - by Graham McNeill
My purchase in London was a good one, it started a new addiction in learning more about the Horus Heresy and a lot more about the Warhammer universe. On the 9th of October 2021, I'd already read Horus Rising and I needed more. I bought False Gods brand new, and I hope all of the false gods forgive me for buying it on Amazon instead of a proper book shop or Warhammer store. That's my confession for the day, I'm sure the Emperor will forgive? Anyway, the story carries on and what a story it is. I need a new book shelf.

Galaxy in Flames - The heresy revealed - Book 3 - by Ben Counter
I bought this third novel at the Warhammer store in London, Tottenham Court Road, on 21st October 2021. That's the second biggest store in the UK, and only second to the main hub in Nottingham, Warhammer World. I met up with Simon and Selim the day before attending the London MCM Comic Con, so it was a fun couple of days in the big city.
This novel has some huge things going on. If you're not sure about reading these if you haven't already, getting to this book is the real clincher for sure. This series would make some great movies.

The Flight of the Eisenstein - The heresy unfolds - Book 4 - by James Swallow
I got this from Ebay a week after the last one, along with two other Warhammer novels, except they are 40K. Only cost me £11.50 for the lot. For some reason, even though it's the 4th novel and should be readily available, the best I could do was a US import for £45. So as you can see, my book is quite used but it's in decent condition. Brilliant book too, gives you more understanding of The Warp and the whole Chaos madness. After reading this, I decided to take a small break from The Horus Heresy books so I could do some crafting and read The Tripods novels. Read the first four in 2 months though, which isn't bad.

I bought this from the Warhammer store in Sheffield, nice and new for the retail price of £7.99. We had a family day out and Maverick bought one of the sealed badges. Tristan, the store manager, was quite excited to see him open it, and ended up with the Harlequin's badge. Got reading this in February of 2022 after a break but what a book!

Descent of Angels - Loyalty and honour - Book 6 - by Mitchel Scanlon
Couldn't get it new anywhere, and eventually managed to get it on Ebay for £3.99. Absolute bargain. This novel is quite epic, and is quite telling about how a Primarch, in this case, Lion El'Johnson, is found, and how a planet can be changed so much because of war.

Like most of my books here, I couldn't get this new. It was over £40 on Amazon. Got this for £9.99 but still second hand. The book itself is very good, and has quite a revelation, one of those I had to re-read again because WTF!

Battle for the Abyss - My brother, my enemy - Book 8 - by Ben Counter
As I type this, I finished it yesterday, and without spoiling it, the book and idea has massive potential, but unless something happens in future books to discuss what happened in this novel, it's a bit disappointing. Not saying why. It does have a lot of info about The Warp. The book could have been a lot better though.

Mechanicum - Knowledge is power - Book 9 - by Graham McNeill

Tales of Heresy - Book 10 - Edited by Nick Kyme & Lindsey Priestley
Finally got this for about £9 from Ebay. Was the hardest book to get my hands on and was lucky to get it really. Cheapest was around the £50 mark and from the United States, until I bought this. Strange how the publisher is down the road but can get them from the US easily as long as I pay ten times the value of them.

This cost me £13.50 but got two other books, False Gods and Nemesis with it. I sold Nemesis for a quid, and I gave False Gods to a work colleague who's in to Warhammer but hasn't read any Horus Heresy yet. This is an ex-Library book and has a plastic cover protector on it. I would normally take that off but it's part of my purchase, so it can happily stay in the collection. Happy plastic.

This is a well sought after book it seems because I couldn't get it for a small price. Ebay auctions were going up and up. In the end, I managed to get this for £26 with postage. One of my more expensive second hand purchases. it's in excellent condition so very happy indeed.

It was a surprise that this second hand, £10 book, came through the door double the size of the usual novels I have bought. If there was a size when I bought this on Ebay, I didn't see it. Surprisingly easy to buy on Ebay, got it for just over £11. Thing is, yet again, it's a bigger book than the usual novel format that I have with the other books. Not good for size to match the others. Not in bad condition though for a second hand book. This is my 31st Horus Heresy novel so half way, and on the day it arrived, I was trying to read the 9th book (Mechanicum). I say try, I was falling asleep going to London, and on the return trip, on attempt to read it. Not sure what's going on.

This was another hard one to get for a decent price. Usually, a book comes up a few times and the prices can be hefty because they're import or quite newish. This, just totally expensive, and class myself as lucky just to get it for £27. The third in a row of these books that are huge too.

We're still getting the bigger novels in size. Looks a bit odd on the shelf when it's normal size books and then suddenly they grow. Anyway, got this for £24. Hard to come by cheaper. I think I was lucky because this was on Ebay for £29 and I made the offer, it got accepted, it's mine now. Not as cheap as I'd like but mine!

This was a measly £3.99, the postage was more bringing it to £8.19. Absolute bargain. The only thing wrong with it is a scuffed corner, which a bit of glue fixed easily. I've spent more on books in a lot worse condition than this.

Another book I thought would take some time in getting because I kept seeing it at £60 plus. These compilations by authors are either hard to get or really expensive. It's another over-sized book though, over 500 pages, got it in good condition by winning an auction on Ebay for £25.99.

Pharos - The dying of the light - Book 34 - by Guy Haley
I was testing out Vinted and checked out the Warhammer books on there. Not a load of Horus Heresy novels on Vinted but Pharos was there for £16. On Ebay, it was £23 and up. So a good test buying on Vinted, and checking out the whole parcel digital posting area near Tesco, it was well worth it. I sold a book on Vinted too, so it's all good experimentation at the moment, and quite exciting.

The End and the Death Volume 2 - Siege of Terra 9 - Book 63 - by Dan Abnett
This is the hardback, just like the first End Death volume. Good to have. It cost me £41.49 on Ebay, brand new, by someone who said they'd accidentally bought two of them. Lucky guy, because when this was released recently, I decided to wait because I thought it would be available for a while. Suddenly, can't get it and might have a 4 month wait. So thought sod it, got it over-priced, but at least I own a brand new copy of this rock hard book. Wish I'd have bought it the day it was released though, would have saved a few quid. I won't make that mistake on the finale, which is released in February 2024.

This is it then! The final book. I got it on pre-order this time for £18.50. Bargain! At the current time of getting this, I have only read book 10. I need to start getting on with it, but some of the books I still haven't got at this time are stupidly expensive.
